I don’t know about You, but to me time management is very big part of my life. Especially when you have family and kids.
When our first born arrived, during first months I felt a bit in panic. First I had a thoughts that “… those days when I could sleep till 8am are gone and will never come back…”- when the little one was not sleeping through entire night and would wake up at 5am. Then later my wife and I would take shifts who is stay at home mom or dad, because I had pretty flexible job, so during days when I was staying at home, I could not get much done for my self, because I just can’t leave him sitting in front of TV for hours, I would feel bad father.
Believe me, I know what you mean when you say you don't have time left in your day for going to the gym or working out. I felt the same way. I was tired after work day, and the nature of my job was to be on call 24h. I could not set my alarm for early morning and workout, because usually before my alarm rings I would get work dispatch and would have to go.
I knew I need to exercise, just like you know you need to do it. So I learned that duration of exercise does not have to be 45min to 1 hour. You can get benefits of doctors recommended 30 min physical activity in less time. It is called HIIT ( high intensity interval training ). Basically you workout very intensively with short breaks for rest (45sec – 60sec – maybe 90sec at the most) and also you combine exercises for different muscles.
So I would find 20 to 30 min interval between my jobs during my work day and just do a quick workout. I usually stop at home and do it in my back yard or stop at the park and just use a park bench as my workout equipment.
That’s how I was able to add workouts to my busy work day because I don’t waste a single minute to drive to the gym all I need is 20 – 30 minutes and no equipment or very minimal equipment. You could not believe how many different exercise routines you can do just using your body weight.
It does not mean that exercises can not be interchanged. There are so many variations of same exercises.
