Empty calories will help you get FAT?
By now everyone knows what calories are and how they influence your weight and your daily energy level. Calories are measuring unit for energy. They tell you how much energy you can get out of the specific food. Our bodies are like furnaces. Human body burns food like furnace burns wood logs.

When you trying to eat healthy or lose weight, counting calories in your daily food alone isn't enough. Calories come from many different sources (meat, sugar, bread, soda and other). Some calories bring more nutritional value that others. For example, let’s take the same amount calories from piece of steak and soda pop. It will take longer to digest steak, calories in steak are accumulated from protein, fat, carbohydrates, compared to sugary soda pop, all of the calories comes from sugar and corn syrup.

"Empty calories, in casual dietary terminology, are a measurement of the energy present in high-energy foods with poor nutritional profiles, with most of the energy typically coming from processed carbohydrates, fats, or ethanol. Also known as a discretionary calorie, an "empty calorie" has the same energy content as any other calorie but lacks many accompanying nutrients such as vitamins, dietary minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, or dietary fiber. Although carbohydrates, fats and water are also nutrients, they are typically ignored for this analysis, with the exception of essential fatty acids. "

Foods that are easily absorbed and loaded with fat, oil and sugar are loaded with empty useless calories. Junk Food.
Currently, many of the foods and beverages Americans eat and drink contain empty calories.

How do you know what foods carry empty calories? It is simple. When you eat something and it almost melts in your mouth with very little chewing. Same way food melts in your mouth it is digested, processed and absorbed in your tummy. After a very short time you feel hunger again. Empty calories are useless, they only give you satisfying feeling for a short time. For comparison, lets take a wood burning furnace. You can throw in a wood log that will keep the flame burning for a long time, or you can throw a newspaper in, it will burn and burn hot, but only for a little while.

Foods with empty calories:
  • French fries
  • All deep fried foods
  • Soda drinks
  • Doughnuts
  • Potato chips
  • Candy, Ice Cream
  • Beer, wine, malt beverages, alcohol
  • White bread
  • Cookies, crackers
  • Pizza, cheese
  • Hot dogs, sausages

You would say, this a list of all my favorite foods. It might feel that there is nothing else to eat. Even now you know that all these foods contain mostly empty calories, you should not remove them completely from your diet. I suggest eat them less often, for example have a one pizza meal per month, stop eating after one doughnut, add less sugar to you coffee or tea.
