Protein is very important in your diet. It is body’s main building component.
Same way the concrete is used in construction of a building. Protein is used to build muscle, skin, hair and nails. Like on any other topic, there is a lot of misinformation about protein in our daily diet. Some diets encourage you to eat mostly foods rich in protein, others say that one kind of protein is better than other.
Often people think that protein powder and protein drinks are only for bodybuilders or for someone who wants to get buff and big. This is very incorrect. Every body needs protein and most of people do not get enough of it in daily diet. Protein plays big role in every regenerative process in our bodies. Our skin cells are being regenerated and replaced every 28 days and new cells are made from proteins. Our hair and nails which are made of keratin (hardened protein) are growing and regenerating all the time. One of the reasons why women develop wrinkles earlier in life compared to men is less protein in their diet.
Another protein myth is that if you add more protein to your meals, you will start growing muscles and look heavy and buff. WRONG. Don’t worry; you will not start growing muscles if you add a daily protein shake to your diet. It takes more than an extra protein shake to grow muscles. To gain muscle you need to exercise it with heavier weights and supply it enough protein to recover and grow, and do it on regular basis.
Choosing better protein could be a bit tricky, because there are so many brands and sizes. When I look at protein supplements there are a few factors that help me choose from huge variety.
Sugar content, sugar substitutes and flavor.
